Details / Protocol
There are a lot of variables involved with how an application will use the internet connection provided by the GO! to download the data it needs. LuckGrib has designed its Offshore Data direct download protocol be the most efficient possible. The protocol used is optimized for use across unreliable, slow internet connections, such as is the case with satellite connections.
By implementing its own transport protocol, LuckGrib is able to achieve more reliable and faster downloads than applications which use more generic protocols.
LuckGrib uses a highly specialized protocol to request and fetch its data. This protocol behaves well when errors are encountered and is able to deliver data at the maximum rate supported by the connection. (This is not true of all software which supports the GO! …)
If the satellite constellation drops an internet call, which happens from time to time, LuckGrib has the ability to restart the download from where it was - the ability to restart a download is a critical feature if you are downloading larger files.
The files transmitted across the satellite connection are the smallest possible, as the Offshore Data system uses the most advanced compression available.
Its really a double win: the smallest files through the compression, and the most reliable internet transport, through its custom protocol.
